Addendum 68 — Closure-Rate Separation Occurs Before the Cosmological Ultraviolet Scale

The R2D Knudsen Criterion, Thermal Recurrence, and the Distinction Between Continuum Breakdown and Planck Strong Coupling

Abstract

Addendum 67 identified the mathematical condition required for a smooth cosmological continuum to remain readable as a physical projection of recursive count structure.

Let

\[ N_C^{(c)}\]

count completed closures of the subordinate class c through which the cosmological state is locally realized.

Then clock-relative cosmological progress is

\[\mathcal H_{\zeta\mid c}=\frac{d\ln a}{dN_C^{(c)}}\]

After physical clock calibration,

\[ f_c=\frac{dN_C^{(c)}}{dt}\]

and therefore

\[ H=f_c\mathcal H_{\zeta\mid c}\]

The resulting count-resolution ratio is

\[\frac{|H|}{f_c}\]

Its reciprocal,

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}=\frac{f_c}{|H|}\]

counts subordinate closures per order-one logarithmic change of cosmological scale.

The continuum regime requires

\[\frac{|H|}{f_c}\ll1\]

or equivalently

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}\gg1\]

This addendum asks which physical recurrence can legitimately occupy the role of fc .

The answer is not an arbitrary high frequency.

The recurrence must belong to the subordinate closure class that actually realizes and maintains the cosmological physical state being represented continuously.

This makes the R2D condition structurally analogous to a Knudsen criterion.

Define the subordinate relaxation time

\[ \tau_c=\frac1{f_c} \]

and the enclosing cosmological evolution time

\[ \tau_H=\frac1{|H|}. \]

Then define

\[ \mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\equiv\frac{\tau_c}{\tau_H}=\frac{|H|}{f_c}. \]

This is not primitively a spatial mean-free-path ratio.

It is the more general count relation:

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=\frac{\text{enclosing physical evolution per time}}{\text{subordinate closure realization per time}}\]

The continuum regime is

\[ \mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\ll1. \]

The loss of scale separation occurs when

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=O(1)\]

At that point the enclosing state changes on the same physical recurrence scale required to realize it locally.

The old continuum is no longer a high-count average over subordinate closure.

This criterion resembles the conventional condition

\[\Gamma\sim H\]

that appears in cosmological freeze-out and decoupling.

But the boundary ownership is essential.

For an arbitrary species or interaction X ,

\[\Gamma_X\sim H\]

means only that X no longer equilibrates rapidly relative to cosmological evolution.

It does not by itself imply global continuum breakdown.

The R2D ultraviolet criterion requires

fc = the closure rate of the subordinate class that actually sustains the projected boundary-level continuum.

Only then does

\[|H|\sim f_c\]

mark loss of the continuum projection itself.

The existing cosmological addenda provide two recurrence scales that can now be compared with this criterion.

First, a realized thermal boundary admits the physical background calibration

\[ f_T=\frac{k_BT}{h}\]

This is a thermal recurrence ruler.

It is not automatically the closure rate fc .

Write instead

\[ f_c=\eta_c(T)f_T=\eta_c(T)\frac{k_BT}{h}\]

where

\[\eta_c(T)\equiv\frac{f_c}{f_T}\]

is the dimensionless mapping between the thermal background recurrence and the actual subordinate closure rate relevant to continuum realization.

Second, the gravitational construction introduced a gravitational background recurrence

\[ f_G\]

and the relative recurrence ratio

\[\zeta_{G\mid\zeta}=\frac{f_G}{f_\zeta}\]

When the cosmological background recurrence is thermally calibrated,

\[ f_\zeta=f_T\]

then if the relevant subordinate closure is gravitational,

\[ f_c=f_G\]

one has

\[\eta_c=\zeta_{G\mid\zeta}\]

The previously unresolved gravitational-to-cosmological recurrence ratio therefore becomes a direct control parameter for continuum readability.

The radiation-dominated physical limit makes the relation quantitative.

For relativistic energy density

\[\epsilon_r=\frac{\pi^2}{30}g_\ast\frac{(k_BT)^4}{\hbar^3c^3}\]

the Friedmann projection gives

\[ H^2=\frac{4\pi^3g_\ast G(k_BT)^4}{45\hbar^3c^5}\]

Define the Planck temperature by

\[ k_BT_P=\sqrt{\frac{\hbar c^5}{G}}\]

Because

\[ f_T=\frac{k_BT}{h}=\frac{k_BT}{2\pi\hbar}\]

the ratio of the cosmological rate to the thermal recurrence is

\[\frac{|H|}{f_T}=\sqrt{\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}}\frac{T}{T_P}\]

Therefore the actual closure-rate criterion is

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=\frac{|H|}{f_c}=\frac1{\eta_c(T)}\sqrt{\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}}\frac{T}{T_P}\]

Equivalently,

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}=\eta_c(T)\sqrt{\frac{45}{16\pi^5g_\ast}}\frac{T_P}{T}\]

The continuum-resolution boundary is therefore not defined primitively by

\[ T=T_P\]

It is defined by closure-rate matching:

\[|H|\sim f_c\]

If the order-one threshold is represented by

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=1\]

then

\[\frac{T_{\mathrm{br}}}{T_P}=\eta_c(T_{\mathrm{br}})\sqrt{\frac{45}{16\pi^5g_\ast(T_{\mathrm{br}})}}\]

This relation is implicit because the physical closure map

ηc (T )

may itself change with cosmological state.

It is nevertheless sufficient to establish an important distinction.

The gravitational Planck condition and the count-resolution condition are not the same equation.

Under the thermal gravitational calibration,

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}=\frac{G(k_BT)^2}{\hbar c^5}=\left(\frac{T}{T_P}\right)^2\]

At continuum breakdown,

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}^{\mathrm{br}}=\frac{45}{16\pi^5g_\ast}\eta_c^2\]

Thus:

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\sim1\not\equiv\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}\sim1\]

They coincide only for the particular closure calibration

\[\eta_c=\sqrt{\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}}\]

The Planck regime is therefore one possible physical read of a recursive transition.

It does not define the transition primitively.

The more primitive continuum condition is loss of closure-rate separation.

The same conclusion can be expressed without thermal or Planck calibration.

Suppose a dominant Friedmann sector obeys

\[ H^2\propto A_\zeta^{-s}\]

so

\[|H|\propto A_\zeta^{-s/2}\]

Let the relevant subordinate closure rate scale as

\[ f_c\propto A_\zeta^{-u_c}\]

Then

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}=\frac{f_c}{|H|}\propto A_\zeta^{s/2-u_c}\]

Three ultraviolet regimes follow.

If

\[ u_c<\frac{s}{2}\]

then

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}\to0\]

toward decreasing area.

The enclosing physical evolution outruns subordinate closure.

The continuum loses recursive resolution.

If

\[ u_c=\frac{s}{2}\]

then

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}=\mathrm{constant}\]

The subordinate recurrence exactly co-scales with the enclosing evolution.

If

\[ u_c>\frac{s}{2}\]

then

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}\to\infty\]

Subordinate closure increasingly outruns the enclosing state change.

The continuum becomes better resolved.

Thus the cosmological ultraviolet problem is not fundamentally:

How small does the universe become?

It is:

How does the closure rate that realizes the state scale relative to the rate at which the / enclosing state changes?

The central statement is therefore:

the physical ultraviolet boundary of a continuum cosmological projection is not primitively defined by a length, temperature, density, or Planck unit. It is reached when the subordinate closure rate that realizes the local physical state can no longer outrun the enclosing rate at which that state changes. The dimensionless control parameter is \(\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\), the R2D analogue of a Knudsen number. Planck strong coupling is a separate dimensionless condition, and the two coincide only when the relevant subordinate > recurrence calibration makes them coincide.

And hence:

closure-rate separation occurs before the cosmological ultraviolet scale.

1. Addendum 67 Identified a Count-Resolution Condition

The continuum support count is

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}=\frac{f_c}{|H|}\]

A smooth cosmological trajectory requires

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}\gg1\]

2. But the Meaning of fc Must Be Fixed

The symbol

\[ f_c\]

cannot denote any arbitrarily chosen high physical frequency.

It must be owned by the subordinate closure class through which the enclosing cosmological occurrence is actually realized.

3. Closure Ownership Is Essential

Let

\[ C_c\]

denote that subordinate closure class.

Then

\[ f_c=\frac{dN_C^{(c)}}{dt}\]

The count

\[ N_C^{(c)}\]

must be the count appearing in the recursive bridge to the enclosing occurrence.

4. An Unrelated Oscillator Cannot Resolve the Continuum

A physical system may contain frequencies much larger than H .

That alone says nothing about whether those frequencies realize the cosmological state transition.

Thus:

\[ f_{\mathrm{fast}}\gg H\]

does not imply continuum validity unless

\[ f_{\mathrm{fast}}=f_c\]

for the relevant recursive bridge.

5. This Is the Same Ownership Rule Used Throughout R2D

A count belongs to the boundary that defines it.

A physical rate belongs to the recurrence class being counted.

A scale comparison is meaningful only when both terms belong to the bridge being tested.

6. Define the Subordinate Closure Time

Let

\[\tau_c=\frac1{f_c}\]

This is the physical time required for one representative subordinate closure.

7. Define the Enclosing Evolution Time

Let

\[\tau_H=\frac1{|H|}\]

This is the physical time over which the logarithmic cosmological scale changes by order unity.

8. Their Ratio Is the Continuum-Control Parameter

Define

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\equiv\frac{\tau_c}{\tau_H}\]

Therefore:

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=\frac{|H|}{f_c}\]

9. The Name Is Structural

The conventional Knudsen number compares microscopic and macroscopic scales in continuum transport.

The R2D quantity compares subordinate closure and enclosing evolution.

The shared structure is scale separation.

10. It Is Not Fundamentally a Spatial Ratio

R2D does not define

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}\]

through a primitive mean free path divided by a primitive geometric length.

Both spatial quantities would already be projected.

The primitive distinction is recurrence count separation.

11. The Continuum Regime Is

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\ll1\]

Subordinate closure is rapid compared with enclosing physical evolution.

12. Equivalently

\[ f_c\gg|H|\]

Many subordinate closures occur before the enclosing cosmological scale changes appreciably.

13. The Sparse-Realization Threshold Is

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=O(1)\]

Equivalently,

\[|H|\sim f_c\]

14. At This Threshold the Scale Hierarchy Collapses

The enclosing state changes on the same physical recurrence scale required to realize it locally.

The enclosing continuum is no longer averaging over a large number of subordinate closures.

15. The Reciprocal Count Is

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}=\frac1{\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}}=\frac{f_c}{|H|}\]

Thus continuum validity and sparse realization are reciprocal descriptions of one boundary relation.

16. Conventional Freeze-Out Has the Same Mathematical Form

Cosmological kinetic theory often compares a physical interaction or relaxation rate

\[\Gamma_X\]

with

\[ H\]

The condition

\[\Gamma_X\gg H\]

means the process X equilibrates rapidly relative to expansion.

17. Freeze-Out Occurs Near

\[\Gamma_X\sim H\]

This has exactly the same rate-ratio architecture.

18. But Freeze-Out Is Not Automatically Global Continuum Breakdown

For an arbitrary process X ,

\[\Gamma_X\sim H\]

means only that the process ceases to track the expanding background adiabatically or equilibrially.

Other subordinate closure classes may continue to realize the cosmological continuum.

19. The R2D Criterion Is Stronger

Global continuum breakdown requires the rate

\[ f_c\]

of the closure class that actually supports the projected boundary-level state.

Thus:

\[\Gamma_X\sim H\]

becomes an R2D projection-replacement condition only if

\[\Gamma_X=f_c\]

20. This Converts a Familiar Rate Condition Into a Boundary- Ownership Problem

The question is no longer only:

What interaction freezes out?

It becomes:

Which closure class must remain rapidly recurrent for this physical continuum to exist as the / same boundary-defined state?

21. Thermal Recurrence Supplies a Natural Physical Ruler

A realized thermal boundary admits

\[ f_T=\frac{k_BT}{h}\]

This is the cycle-frequency calibration associated with the thermal recurrence scale.

22. Thermal Recurrence Is Not Automatically the Required Closure Rate

The thermal background frequency provides a ruler.

It does not by definition count the particular closures that maintain the full cosmological state.

Therefore:

\[ f_c\ne f_T\]

in general.

23. Define Their Mapping

Let

\[\eta_c(T)\equiv\frac{f_c}{f_T}\]

Then:

\[ f_c=\eta_c(T)f_T=\eta_c(T)\frac{k_BT}{h}\]

24. ηc Is a Boundary-Mapping Coordinate

It is not inserted merely to adjust a numerical coefficient.

It asks how the actual subordinate closure rate compares with the thermal recurrence ruler.

Its physical content must be derived from the closure class being modeled.

25. If Thermal Recurrence Itself Is the Closure

Then:

\[\eta_c=1\]

This is a special physical limit, not the general definition.

26. If the Closure Is Slower Than the Thermal Recurrence

Then:

\[\eta_c<1\]

The continuum loses closure-rate separation sooner.

27. If the Closure Is Faster

Then:

\[\eta_c>1\]

The state can remain count resolved to a larger enclosing rate.

28. Radiation Domination Gives a Quantitative Test

The relativistic energy density is

\[\epsilon_r=\frac{\pi^2}{30}g_\ast\frac{(k_BT)^4}{\hbar^3c^3}\]

Here g∗ is the effective relativistic energy degree-of-freedom count entering the physical thermal source read.

29. Insert This Into Friedmann

For a flat radiation-dominated physical projection,

\[ H^2=\frac{8\pi G}{3c^2}\epsilon_r\]

Therefore:

\[ H^2=\frac{4\pi^3g_\ast G(k_BT)^4}{45\hbar^3c^5}\]

30. Define the Conventional Planck Temperature

Let

ℏc5

\[ k_BT_P=\sqrt{\frac{\hbar c^5}{G}}\]

This is a physical calibration downstream of the gravitational count relation.

31. Divide H by the Thermal Cycle Frequency

Since

\[ f_T=\frac{k_BT}{2\pi\hbar}\]

one obtains

\[\frac{|H|}{f_T}=\sqrt{\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}}\frac{T}{T_P}\]

32. This Is the Thermal R2D Knudsen Ratio

Define

\[\mathrm{Kn}_T\equiv\frac{|H|}{f_T}\]

Then:

\[\mathrm{Kn}_T=\sqrt{\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}}\frac{T}{T_P}\]

33. The Thermal Continuum-Support Count Is

\[\mathcal N_T=\frac{f_T}{|H|}=\sqrt{\frac{45}{16\pi^5g_\ast}}\frac{T_P}{T}\]

34. Backward Radiation Evolution Reduces Thermal Scale Separation

As

T ↑,

\[\mathcal N_T\downarrow\]

The thermal recurrence becomes faster, but not as quickly as the Friedmann rate.

35. The Reason Is Simple

During radiation domination,

\[ f_T\propto T\]

whereas

\[|H|\propto T^2\]

Thus:

\[\frac{|H|}{f_T}\propto T\]

36. The Enclosing Evolution Outruns the Thermal Ruler

Toward higher projected temperature,

\[ H\]

grows one power of T faster than the thermal recurrence.

Therefore a fixed thermal calibration cannot maintain unlimited continuum resolution.

37. Now Restore the Actual Closure Rate

Since

\[ f_c=\eta_cf_T\]

we have

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=\frac{|H|}{f_c}=\frac1{\eta_c(T)}\sqrt{\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}}\frac{T}{T_P}\]

38. Equivalently

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}=\eta_c(T)\sqrt{\frac{45}{16\pi^5g_\ast}}\frac{T_P}{T}\]

This is the radiation-era continuum-support count in terms of the actual subordinate closure mapping.

39. Define the Closure-Rate Breakdown Condition

At the nominal order-one threshold,

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=1\]

Then:

\[\frac{T_{\mathrm{br}}}{T_P}=\eta_c(T_{\mathrm{br}})\sqrt{\frac{45}{16\pi^5g_\ast(T_{\mathrm{br}})}}\]

40. This Is an Implicit Boundary Equation

Both

\[ g_\ast\]

and

\[\eta_c\]

may change as the physical state changes.

The equation therefore identifies the relation that a physical transition must satisfy rather than imposing a universal numerical temperature.

41. The Ultraviolet Boundary Is Therefore Not Defined by TP

The condition

\[ T=T_P\]

belongs to the Planck calibration.

The count-resolution condition is

\[ H=f_c\]

They answer different questions.

42. The Planck Condition Is Gravitational Coupling

Under the same thermal calibration,

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}=\frac{G(k_BT)^2}{\hbar c^5}=\left(\frac{T}{T_P}\right)^2\]

The Planck regime is

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}\sim1\]

43. The Continuum Condition Can Be Written in Terms of αG∣ζ

Because

\[\frac{T}{T_P}=\sqrt{\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}}\]

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=\frac1{\eta_c}\sqrt{\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}}\]

44. Therefore

\[\left(\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\right)^2=\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}\frac{\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}}{\eta_c^2}\]

This is the direct relation between count-resolution breakdown and gravitational strong coupling.

45. At Continuum Breakdown

Setting

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=1\]

gives

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}^{\mathrm{br}}=\frac{45}{16\pi^5g_\ast}\eta_c^2\]

46. Nothing Requires This to Equal One

Thus:

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}^{\mathrm{br}}\ne1\]

in general.

47. Continuum Breakdown and Planck Strong Coupling Are Different Conditions

The first is:

\[|H|\sim f_c\]

The second is:

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}\sim1\]

One compares enclosing evolution with subordinate closure.

The other compares gravitational coupling with the cosmological recurrence calibration.

48. They Coincide Only Under a Specific Closure Calibration

Require simultaneously

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=1\]

and

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}=1\]

Then:

\[\eta_c=\sqrt{\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}}\]

49. Coincidence Is Therefore a Physical Result to Be Derived

It cannot be assumed merely because both conditions are called “ultraviolet.”

A theory of the replacement boundary must determine whether its subordinate closure rate satisfies this relation.

50. Three Physical Possibilities Remain

Case I — Continuum breakdown first

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}\sim1\]

while

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}\ll1\]

The old continuum count domain fails before gravitational Planck strong coupling.

51. Case II — Planck strong coupling first

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}\sim1\]

while

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}\ll1\]

The physical projection enters a gravitational strong-coupling regime while subordinate closure still resolves the continuum.

52. Case III — Coincident transition

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}\sim1\]

and

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}\sim1\]

at the same boundary.

Then the Planck scale may be the dimensional physical read of the recursive replacement that simultaneously destroys the old continuum scale separation.

53. This Gives the Earlier Planck Alternatives a Count Criterion

The missing question is no longer merely whether the Planck scale is reached.

It is whether

gravitational strong coupling

and

loss of recursive continuum resolution

refer to the same boundary event.

54. Return to the Gravitational Background Recurrence

Let

\[ f_G\]

be the physical recurrence calibration associated with the gravitational background.

Let

\[ f_\zeta\]

be the cosmological background recurrence calibration.

Define

\[\zeta_{G\mid\zeta}=\frac{f_G}{f_\zeta}\]

55. In the Thermal Cosmological Regime

If

\[ f_\zeta=f_T\]

then:

\[\zeta_{G\mid\zeta}=\frac{f_G}{f_T}\]

56. If Gravitational Recurrence Is the Relevant Closure Clock

Set

\[ f_c=f_G\]

Then:

\[\eta_c=\zeta_{G\mid\zeta}\]

57. The Continuum-Support Count Becomes

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(G)}=\zeta_{G\mid\zeta}\sqrt{\frac{45}{16\pi^5g_\ast}}\frac{T_P}{T}\]

58. And the R2D Knudsen Ratio Is

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(G)}=\frac1{\zeta_{G\mid\zeta}}\sqrt{\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}}\frac{T}{T_P}\]

The previously introduced gravitational/cosmological recurrence ratio now directly determines continuum count resolution.

59. This Gives ζG∣ζ a New Physical Role

It no longer appears only in Planck calibration.

It also tells us how rapidly the subordinate gravitational recurrence resolves the enclosing cosmological evolution.

60. Planck Coupling and Continuum Resolution Depend Differently on ζG∣ζ

The gravitational coupling comparison and the continuum-support count are separate functions of the recurrence hierarchy.

Therefore knowledge of one does not determine the other without the physical closure mapping.

61. The Radiation-Era Area Scaling Makes the Requirement Transparent

In the radiation regime,

\[ T\propto a^{-1}\]

Since

\[ A\propto a^2\]

\[ T\propto A^{-1/2}\]

62. Thermal Recurrence Therefore Scales As

\[ f_T\propto A^{-1/2}\]

63. But the Radiation Friedmann Rate Scales As

\[|H|\propto A^{-1}\]

Thus:

\[\mathcal N_T\propto A^{1/2}\]

64. A Fixed Recurrence Ratio Cannot Preserve Resolution

If

\[\zeta_{G\mid\zeta}=\mathrm{constant}\]

then

\[ f_G\propto f_T\propto A^{-1/2}\]

Therefore:

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(G)}\propto A^{1/2}\to0\]

toward decreasing area.

65. Thus Co-Scaling Background Frequencies Do Not Automatically Preserve the Continuum

Even if

\[ f_G/f_T\]

remains constant, the enclosing Friedmann rate grows faster than either recurrence.

This is distinct from the question of whether the gravitational coupling reaches its Planck value.

66. Generalize the Result

Let

\[|H|\propto A^{-s/2}\]

and

\[ f_c\propto A^{-u_c}\]

Then:

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\propto A^{-(s/2-u_c)}\]

67. The Continuum-Support Count Scales As

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}\propto A^{s/2-u_c}\]

This is the general ultraviolet scaling law.

68. Case A — Closure Grows Too Slowly

If

\[ u_c<\frac{s}{2}\]

then toward decreasing area:

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}\to\infty\]

and

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}\to0\]

The continuum necessarily loses closure-rate separation.

69. Case B — Exact Co-Scaling

If

\[ u_c=\frac{s}{2}\]

then:

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}=\mathrm{constant}\]

The recursive resolution hierarchy is preserved but does not improve.

70. Case C — Closure Outruns Enclosing Evolution

If

\[ u_c>\frac{s}{2}\]

then toward decreasing area:

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}\to0\]

The subordinate closure remains increasingly rapid relative to the enclosing physical evolution.

71. Radiation Requires uc ≥ 1 to Avoid Loss of Resolution

For radiation,

\[ s=2\]

Therefore:

\[\frac{s}{2}=1\]

Continuum resolution can remain nondecreasing toward smaller area only if

\[ u_c\ge1\]

72. But Thermal Recurrence Has Only

\[ u_T=\frac12\]

Therefore:

\[ u_T<1\]

The thermal recurrence by itself cannot maintain ultraviolet scale separation.

73. In Temperature Language

Radiation gives

\[ H\propto T^2\]

Thus the relevant closure rate must scale at least as

\[ f_c\propto T^2\]

to avoid losing relative resolution.

74. A Closure Rate Proportional Only to T Is Insufficient

If

\[ f_c\propto T\]

then:

\[\frac{H}{f_c}\propto T\]

The continuum eventually fails under backward extrapolation.

75. This Turns the Ultraviolet Problem Into a Rate-Scaling Problem

The question is no longer fundamentally:

At what length does spacetime become discrete?

R2D asks:

Does the subordinate closure rate continue to outrun the enclosing rate across the boundary / being projected?

76. Space Need Not Become Pixelated

Failure of

\[ f_c\gg H\]

does not imply a smallest spatial cell.

It implies that the projected spatial continuum has lost the recurrence separation needed to remain a smooth read.

77. The Replacement Description Is Count Based

At

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}\sim1\]

the appropriate description returns to the boundary architecture:

\[\Omega_n\overset{\pi_n}{\longrightarrow}\mathcal M_n\]

The sparse multiplicity path becomes readable before another continuum projection is assigned.

78. Principle — Closure Ownership Precedes Rate Comparison

Only the subordinate recurrence class that actually realizes the enclosing state can supply the continuum clock fc .

Thus:

identify closure owner → compare rates.

79. Principle — Closure-Rate Separation Defines Continuum Readability

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=\frac{|H|}{f_c}\]

The continuum regime is

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\ll1\]

80. Principle — Order-One Rate Matching Defines Loss of Recursive Scale Separation

\[|H|\sim f_c\]

marks the transition from many subordinate closures per enclosing change to order-one closure support.

81. Principle — Freeze-Out and Continuum Breakdown Share Form but Not Necessarily Boundary Ownership

\[\Gamma_X\sim H\]

is a species/process freeze-out condition.

It becomes a global continuum-breakdown criterion only if

\[\Gamma_X\]

is the closure rate that sustains the projected cosmological boundary.

82. Principle — Thermal Recurrence Is a Ruler, Not Automatically the Closure

\[ f_T=\frac{k_BT}{h}\]

supplies a physical thermal recurrence calibration.

The actual continuum closure satisfies

\[ f_c=\eta_cf_T\]

83. Principle — Continuum Breakdown and Planck Strong Coupling Are Distinct

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}\sim1\]

and

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}\sim1\]

are separate dimensionless conditions.

Their coincidence requires a derived closure calibration.

84. Principle — The Planck Scale Can Be a Projection of Boundary Replacement Without Defining It

If the count-resolution and gravitational-coupling thresholds coincide physically, then Planck units may provide the dimensional read of that recursive replacement.

The count relation still comes first.

85. Principle — Ultraviolet Fate Is Controlled by Relative Scaling

For

\[ H^2\propto A_\zeta^{-s}\]

and

\[ f_c\propto A^{-u_c}\]

the continuum fate is controlled by

\[\frac{s}{2}-u_c\]

This exponent comparison precedes any dimensional cutoff.

86. Logical Status

Canonical R2D

Recursive closure counts are primary.

Physical frequency is a later read of recurrence.

Addendum 58

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}\propto A^{s/2-u_c}\]

Not Yet Established

This addendum does not yet identify:

  • the unique subordinate closure class that realizes the ultraviolet cosmological continuum;
  • the function ηc (T );
  • whether gravitational recurrence is that closure;
  • whether continuum breakdown coincides with Planck strong coupling;
  • the physical replacement boundary;
  • or the next physical projection after closure-rate separation is lost.

Those are now sharply defined problems rather than unspecified cutoffs.

87. The Complete Ultraviolet Architecture

A cosmological continuum is realized by subordinate closures:

\[ C_c\]

Their physical recurrence rate is

\[ f_c\]

The enclosing cosmological boundary changes at physical rate

\[|H|\]

Their ratio defines scale separation:

fc (c)

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}=\frac{f_c}{|H|}\]

When

\[ f_c\gg|H|\]

the enclosing trajectory is a high-count continuum read.

As the ultraviolet regime is approached, one compares the scalings:

\[ f_c\propto A^{-u_c}\]

\[|H|\propto A^{-s/2}\]

If the enclosing rate grows faster,

\[\frac{s}{2}>u_c\]

then:

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}\downarrow\]

Eventually:

\[|H|\sim f_c\]

Recursive scale separation is lost.

The old continuum projection ends.

Only afterward may that boundary acquire a dimensional physical characterization such as a temperature, energy, length, or Planck scale.

88. Conclusion

The cosmological ultraviolet problem is usually expressed in dimensional coordinates.

One asks when the universe reaches a sufficiently high temperature.

One asks when density becomes sufficiently large.

One asks when the scale factor becomes sufficiently small.

One asks when a physical length reaches the Planck length.

R2D places all of these questions later.

A continuum physical state exists only because subordinate recurrent closures realize that state many times before the enclosing boundary changes appreciably.

The primary ultraviolet comparison is therefore not a length ratio.

It is a recurrence-rate ratio:

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}=\frac{|H|}{f_c}\]

When

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\ll1\]

the cosmological continuum is strongly count resolved.

When

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\sim1\]

the enclosing physical evolution occurs on the same recurrence scale as the subordinate closure that realizes it.

The continuum has lost the count separation from which its smoothness arose.

Which recurrence occupies fc is therefore the central physical question.

The thermal recurrence

\[ f_T=\frac{k_BT}{h}\]

provides one physical ruler.

But a ruler is not automatically the closure that sustains the continuum.

The relation must instead be written

\[ f_c=\eta_cf_T\]

In a radiation-dominated physical projection,

\[\frac{|H|}{f_c}=\frac1{\eta_c}\sqrt{\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}}\frac{T}{T_P}\]

The continuum threshold is therefore determined by closure-rate matching rather than by the statement

\[ T=T_P\]

The conventional gravitational strong-coupling condition is

\[\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}=\frac{G(k_BT)^2}{\hbar c^5}=\left(\frac{T}{T_P}\right)^2\]

The count-resolution condition is

\[\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}\sim1\]

Their relationship is

\[\left(\mathrm{Kn}_{\mathrm{R2D}}^{(c)}\right)^2=\frac{16\pi^5g_\ast}{45}\frac{\alpha_{G\mid\zeta}}{\eta_c^2}\]

They are therefore not the same condition.

They coincide only when the physical closure architecture makes them coincide.

This resolves an ambiguity left by the earlier cosmological ultraviolet analysis.

The Planck scale cannot define the primitive boundary because it is already a dimensional physical read.

But neither must it be irrelevant.

If gravitational strong coupling and loss of closure-rate separation occur at the same recursive replacement, then Planck units may be the physical calibration of that transition.

If count resolution fails first, the continuum ends before the Planck regime.

If gravitational strong coupling occurs first, a strong-coupling physical regime remains possible while the continuum is still recursively resolved.

The deciding quantity is not the dimensional scale itself.

It is the rate hierarchy.

More generally, if

\[ H^2\propto A_\zeta^{-s}\]

and

\[ f_c\propto A^{-u_c}\]

then

\[\mathcal N_{\mathrm{cont}}^{(c)}\propto A^{s/2-u_c}\]

The sign of

\[\frac{s}{2}-u_c\]

therefore determines whether recursive continuum resolution is lost, preserved, or strengthened toward the ultraviolet.

The physical ultraviolet boundary is consequently not primitively “where space becomes small.”

It is where the recurrence hierarchy required to make space appear continuous can no longer sustain that projection.

Planck strong

coupling is a separate dimensionless condition, and the two coincide only when the relevant subordinate > recurrence calibration makes them coincide.

And hence:

closure-rate separation occurs before the cosmological ultraviolet scale.
