Addendum 35 — The Reference Boundary Occurs Before Lorentz Geometry
Enclosing Rapidity Landscapes, Area Before Radius, and the Projection of Relativistic Motion
Abstract
Special relativity is conventionally formulated as a relation among observers, clocks, rulers, velocities, and an invariant propagation speed c. Recursively Realized Distinguishability (R²D) asks a prior question:
What boundary defines the reference relative to which velocity is measured?
A local directional realization cannot define its own nondirectional zero. The zero belongs to an enclosing relation.
A thermal gas makes this architecture directly visible. Individual molecules possess velocities relative to the gas/container boundary, but no individual molecule determines the mean velocity about which the distribution is centered. The enclosing gas defines that distribution. Its molecules realize it. If the container itself moves relative to a larger boundary, the internal molecular multiplicity need not be reconstructed. Instead, the entire directional distribution acquires a new enclosing reference.
The R²D hierarchy is therefore
\[B_a\subset\Phi_0\subset\Phi_1.\]
where Ba is a subordinate observed boundary, Φ0 defines its immediate motion reference, and Φ1 defines the reference relative to which Φ0 itself possesses directional motion.
This reverses the usual causal picture. Physical velocity is not primitive motion carried intrinsically by an object. It is a boundary-relative read of a subordinate realization within an enclosing rapidity landscape.
For a one-dimensional directional relation, two positive opposed count coordinates admit one orientation- even and one orientation-odd logarithmic coordinate. The even coordinate belongs to the unchanged local boundary. The odd coordinate belongs to its relation to the enclosing reference. A pure inertial reread therefore changes the latter without reconstructing the former.
The positive coordinates consequently transform reciprocally,
\[Z_+'=e^{-\bar\Xi}Z_+,\]
\[Z_-'=e^{+\bar\Xi}Z_-,\]
while
\[Z_+Z_-.\]
remains invariant.
The product is an area-like enclosing count relation from which a radius-like invariant norm can subsequently be defined. In linear even and odd coordinates,
\[d\theta=\frac{Z_++Z_-}{2},\qquad d\chi=\frac{Z_--Z_+}{2}.\]
the invariant becomes
\[d\theta^2-d\chi^2=Z_+Z_-.\]
Thus the Lorentzian quadratic form is obtained before physical time, distance, or spacetime geometry is introduced.
Only afterward are
\[d\theta=a_\Phi\,dt,\]
and
\[d\chi=b_\Phi\,dx.\]
assigned physical clock and ruler reads. Their ratio defines the dimensional conversion
\[c_{\Phi}=\frac{a_{\Phi}}{b_{\Phi}}.\]
The resulting physical projection is
\[d\tau^2=dt^2-\frac{dx^2}{c_{\Phi}^{\,2}},\]
with
\[\frac{v}{c_{\Phi}}=\tanh\xi.\]
Relativistic velocity addition, time dilation, length contraction, and relativity of simultaneity then follow.
The local boundary has not been mechanically compressed or slowed. Its proper relation remains invariant. What changes is the enclosing rapidity geometry through which its temporal, spatial, and velocity coordinates are read.
This is the Lorentz version of the R²D inversion area before radius.
The enclosure determines the coordinate geometry.
The coordinate geometry does not construct the enclosure.
The central claim is therefore:
the reference boundary occurs before Lorentz geometry.
1. Velocity Does Not Define Its Own Reference
A physical velocity written simply as
\[v_a\]
is incomplete.
Velocity necessarily compares one realized boundary with another relation.
R²D therefore requires the indexed form
\[v_{a\mid\Phi}.\]
The local boundary Ba supplies the observed realization.
The enclosing relation Φ supplies the reference relative to which that realization is directional.
Thus:
motion is a relation between boundaries.
An object cannot define its own zero velocity any more than one member of a statistical distribution can independently define the mean of that distribution.
The reference is enclosing.
2. The Thermal Gas Provides the Physical Prototype
Consider a gas enclosed within a container.
Let
\[B_a\]
denote one molecular boundary and
\[\Phi_0\]
the enclosing gas/container boundary.
The molecules possess directional physical reads
\[v_{a\mid\Phi_0}.\]
At equilibrium the distribution is centered on the bulk reference:
\[\langle v_{a\mid\Phi_0}\rangle=0.\]
No individual molecule defines that zero.
The gas ensemble does.
Likewise, no individual molecular probability constructs the ensemble multiplicity from below.
The enclosing statistical state defines the multiplicity landscape within which molecular velocities are realized.
Thus the R²D causal order is
enclosing multiplicity → directional distribution → subordinate realization.
The molecules occupy the distribution.
They do not independently generate it.
3. Probability Belongs After the Enclosing Count Structure
The molecular example exposes a general projection error.
One may describe a particular molecule as having some probability of occupying a given velocity interval.
That description is valid.
But the probability is normalized from an already-defined ensemble distribution.
It does not reside primitively inside the molecule and then assemble upward to construct the gas.
R²D instead gives:
possible-count landscape → normalized probability → observed molecular realization.
Therefore the rapidity distribution considered below belongs first to the enclosing boundary.
A subordinate velocity is one realized read of that landscape.
4. The Reference Boundary Can Itself Move
Now introduce another enclosing reference,
\[\Phi_1.\]
The hierarchy becomes
\[B_a\subset\Phi_0\subset\Phi_1.\]
The molecule has a directional relation relative to the container,
\[B_a\mid\Phi_0,\]
while the container itself has a directional relation relative to the larger reference,
\[\Phi_0\mid\Phi_1.\]
Moving the container relative to Φ1 does not require reconstruction of the gas multiplicity inside Φ0 .
The internal distribution can remain unchanged relative to its own boundary.
What changes is the enclosing reference through which that distribution is read.
This is the primitive problem underlying relativity.
5. Principle — The Enclosure Defines the Motion Reference
For subordinate directional realizations {Ba } contained within an enclosing boundary Φ, the nondirectional zero relative to which their motion is measured belongs to Φ.
The subordinate boundary supplies the local realization.
The enclosing boundary supplies the common reference.
Therefore:
local directional realization + enclosing reference → physical velocity.
A pure change of inertial reference can change the velocity read without changing the native subordinate boundary.
6. Rest Is Background Relative
The statement
\[v=0\]
does not define a primitive state called absolute rest.
It means
\[v_{a\mid\Phi}=0.\]
Equivalently, the subordinate directional relation is centered on the selected enclosing reference.
Thus:
rest belongs to \(B_a\mid\Phi\),
not to Ba alone.
Mass does not define the zero of motion.
The background does.
This distinction becomes important later when mass-energy is derived. The Lorentz reference structure must therefore be established before rest mass is allowed to define any relativistic geometry.
7. The Enclosure Defines a Rapidity Landscape
Physical velocity is not yet the most primitive directional coordinate.
R²D directional relations are naturally logarithmic because multiplicative compatible counts become additive in logarithmic coordinates.
Let
\[\xi_{a\mid\Phi}\]
denote the logarithmic directional coordinate of subordinate boundary Ba relative to enclosing reference Φ.
For an enclosing nondirectional state,
\[\langle\xi_{a\mid\Phi}\rangle=0.\]
The distribution
\[p_{\Phi}(\xi)\]
is therefore an enclosing rapidity landscape.
The center belongs to Φ.
Individual subordinate boundaries realize values within it.
Thus:
the enclosure determines the rapidity landscape.
8. A Change of Enclosing Reference Shifts the Landscape
Let the immediate reference Φ0 possess directional relation
\[\bar\Xi_{\Phi_0\mid\Phi_1}\]
relative to a larger reference Φ1 .
The same local realization is then read as
\[\xi_{a\mid\Phi_1}=\xi_{a\mid\Phi_0}+\bar\Xi_{\Phi_0\mid\Phi_1}.\]
Correspondingly,
\[p_{\Phi_1}(\xi)=p_{\Phi_0}(\xi-\bar\Xi_{\Phi_0\mid\Phi_1}).\]
The local distribution need not change shape.
Its center changes relative to the larger enclosure.
This is the R²D meaning of a pure inertial boost.
9. The Observable Does Not Reveal a Unique Reference Decomposition
Suppose an observer reads only
\[\xi_{a\mid\Phi_1}.\]
The decomposition
\[\xi_{a\mid\Phi_1}=\xi_{a\mid\Phi_0}+\bar\Xi_{\Phi_0\mid\Phi_1}\]
is not uniquely recoverable from that total alone.
Different pairs
\[(\xi_{a\mid\Phi_0},\bar\Xi_{\Phi_0\mid\Phi_1})\]
can produce the same larger-boundary read.
Thus:
observable motion does not imply a unique subordinate/reference decomposition. [PDF statement clipped at right edge; wording requires author review.]
The reference center can be physically consequential while remaining unreadable from the observational boundary.
This is the projection problem that Lorentz geometry resolves.
10. Area Before Radius Applies to Motion Geometry
R²D gravitational geometry already motivates the ordering
enclosing area → radial coordinate.
The same inversion appears in relativistic motion.
The primitive relation is not a radius moving through an already-existing geometry.
It is an enclosing multiplicative count relation.
Let the two opposed positive reference-resolved coordinates be
\[Z_+>0,\qquad Z_->0.\]
Define their multiplicative enclosure measure
\[\mathcal A_L\equiv Z_+Z_-.\]
The notation AL is area-like: it denotes the prior multiplicative enclosure relation, not a literal Euclidean surface.
Only afterward define the associated norm
\[\rho_L\equiv\sqrt{\mathcal A_L}.\]
Thus the logical order is
\[\mathcal A_L\longrightarrow\rho_L.\]
This is the Lorentz analogue of area before radius.
11. The Local Radius-Like Norm Does Not Generate the Enclosure
For a fixed local boundary under a pure inertial reread,
\[\rho_L\]
remains the same.
The boundary itself has not been reconstructed.
What changes is its decomposition relative to the enclosing rapidity reference.
Thus the apparent relativistic change does not begin with
\[\rho_L\longrightarrow\rho'_L.\]
It begins with
\[\bar\Xi_{\Phi_i\mid\Phi_j}\ne0.\]
The same local norm is resolved differently relative to the new enclosing reference.
Therefore:
boost ≠ change of local proper size.
It is a change of enclosing coordinate decomposition.
12. Opposed Count Coordinates Separate Enclosure From Direction
Define
\[z_+=\ln Z_+,\]
\[z_-=\ln Z_-.\]
Orientation reversal exchanges
\[z_+\longleftrightarrow z_-.\]
The unique linear even and odd coordinates are
\[I=\frac12(z_++z_-),\]
and
\[\xi=\frac12(z_--z_+).\]
Equivalently,
\[I=\frac12\ln(Z_+Z_-)\]
and
\[\xi=\frac12\ln\frac{Z_-}{Z_+}.\]
The even coordinate measures the orientation-independent enclosure relation.
The odd coordinate measures direction relative to the selected enclosing reference.
13. The Radius-Like Norm Is Derived From the Even Coordinate
Because
\[Z_+Z_-=e^{2I},\]
we have
\[\mathcal A_L=e^{2I},\]
and therefore
\[\rho_L=e^I.\]
Thus:
\[I\longrightarrow\mathcal A_L\longrightarrow\rho_L.\]
The radius-like invariant is downstream of the enclosing multiplicative relation.
Again:
area before radius.
14. Rapidity Changes Directional Decomposition, Not the Local Norm
Invert the logarithmic coordinates:
\[z_+=I-\xi,\]
\[z_-=I+\xi.\]
Therefore
\[Z_+=\rho_Le^{-\xi},\]
\[Z_-=\rho_Le^{+\xi}.\]
A change of enclosing rapidity reference,
\[\xi\longrightarrow\xi+\bar\Xi,\]
gives
\[Z_+'=e^{-\bar\Xi}Z_+,\]
\[Z_-'=e^{+\bar\Xi}Z_-.\]
Their product remains
\[Z_+'Z_-'=\rho_L^2.\]
The local norm has not changed.
Its opposed reference-resolved coordinates have.
15. Nested Reference Relations Make Rapidity Additive
Introduce another enclosing boundary:
\[B_a\subset\Phi_0\subset\Phi_1\subset\Phi_2.\]
Then
\[\xi_{a\mid\Phi_1}=\xi_{a\mid\Phi_0}+\bar\Xi_{0\mid1},\]
and
\[\xi_{a\mid\Phi_2}=\xi_{a\mid\Phi_1}+\bar\Xi_{1\mid2}.\]
Therefore,
\[\xi_{a\mid\Phi_2}=\xi_{a\mid\Phi_0}+\bar\Xi_{0\mid1}+\bar\Xi_{1\mid2}.\]
Hence
\[\bar\Xi_{0\mid2}=\bar\Xi_{0\mid1}+\bar\Xi_{1\mid2}.\]
Rapidity adds because it is the logarithmic coordinate of nested multiplicative reference relations.
Physical velocity need not add.
16. The Dimensionless Lorentz Geometry
Define the linear even and odd coordinates
\[d\theta=\frac12(Z_++Z_-),\]
and
\[d\chi=\frac12(Z_--Z_+).\]
Then
\[Z_-=d\theta+d\chi,\]
\[Z_+=d\theta-d\chi.\]
Therefore
\[Z_+Z_-=(d\theta-d\chi)(d\theta+d\chi).\]
Hence
\[d\theta^2-d\chi^2=\rho_L^2.\]
This relation exists before physical space or time.
It is the dimensionless Lorentz geometry of the enclosing count relation.
17. The Lorentz Transformation Follows From a Reference Shift
Under
\[\xi\longrightarrow\xi+\bar\Xi,\]
the opposed coordinates transform as
\[Z_+'=e^{-\bar\Xi}Z_+,\]
\[Z_-'=e^{+\bar\Xi}Z_-.\]
Consequently,
\[d\theta'=\cosh\bar\Xi\,d\theta-\sinh\bar\Xi\,d\chi,\]
and
\[d\chi'=-\sinh\bar\Xi\,d\theta+\cosh\bar\Xi\,d\chi.\]
Thus
\[d\theta'^2-d\chi'^2=d\theta^2-d\chi^2.\]
The Lorentz transformation has appeared as the mathematical representation of a change in enclosing rapidity reference while the local norm remains fixed.
No physical spacetime metric has yet been assumed.
18. Physical Clock and Ruler Coordinates Come After the Count Geometry
Let the enclosing physical background Φ supply temporal calibration
\[a_{\Phi}\]
and spatial calibration
\[b_{\Phi}.\]
Assign
\[d\theta=a_\Phi\,dt,\]
and
\[d\chi=b_{\Phi}\,dx.\]
Then
\[a_{\Phi}^{\,2}dt^2-b_{\Phi}^{\,2}dx^2=\rho_L^2.\]
Define
\[c_{\Phi}=\frac{a_{\Phi}}{b_{\Phi}}.\]
Also define the proper clock read
\[d\tau=\frac{\rho_L}{a_{\Phi}}.\]
Then
\[d\tau^2=dt^2-\frac{dx^2}{c_{\Phi}^{\,2}}.\]
Minkowski geometry is therefore the clock-and-ruler projection of a prior enclosing count geometry.
19. c Is Not Rapidity
Rapidity is dimensionless and unbounded.
The quantity cΦ has physical dimensions of velocity.
Therefore
\[c_{\Phi}\ne\xi.\]
Instead,
\(c_{\Phi}\) = physical clock/ruler calibration of the background rapidity geometry.
The background supplies the dimensionless reference geometry.
The physical domain supplies the units through which that geometry is read.
This distinction is essential.
20. Relativity Is Relative to Background Rapidity, Not Rest Mass
The relativistic reference is not created by mass.
Mass belongs to the local boundary-coupling read.
The motion zero belongs to the enclosing background.
Thus the logical order is
background rapidity reference → rest condition → velocity read.
Mechanical rest is simply
\[\xi_{a\mid\Phi}=0.\]
A mass boundary can possess persistent local recurrence while satisfying this condition.
Mass therefore does not generate Lorentz relativity.
It participates in a reference geometry already defined by the enclosure.
21. Velocity Is a Bounded Read of Background-Relative Rapidity
For the origin of a shifted reference,
\[dx'=0.\]
The hyperbolic transformation yields
\[\frac{dx}{c_{\Phi}\,dt}=\tanh\bar\Xi.\]
Therefore,
\[\frac{V_{\Phi_i\mid\Phi_j}}{c_{\Phi}}=\tanh\bar\Xi_{\Phi_i\mid\Phi_j}.\]
For a subordinate realization,
\[\frac{v_{a\mid\Phi}}{c_{\Phi}}=\tanh\xi_{a\mid\Phi}.\]
Velocity is therefore not the primitive additive coordinate.
Rapidity is.
Velocity is its bounded physical projection.
22. Relativistic Velocity Addition Is a Projection of Nested Reference Addition
Let
\[u=c\tanh\eta\]
be the local subordinate velocity relative to Φ0 , and
\[V=c\tanh\bar\Xi\]
the velocity of Φ0 relative to Φ1 .
The larger-boundary rapidity is
\[\xi=\eta+\bar\Xi.\]
Therefore
\[v=c\tanh(\eta+\bar\Xi),\]
which gives
\[v=\frac{u+V}{1+uV/c^2}.\]
The nonlinear velocity law is therefore downstream of the linear nested-reference law
\[\xi=\eta+\bar\Xi.\]
23. The Limiting Speed Is a Projection Horizon
For any finite rapidity,
\[|\tanh\xi|<1.\]
Therefore
\[|v|<c.\]
As
\[\xi\longrightarrow+\infty,\]
\[v\longrightarrow+c.\]
As
\[\xi\longrightarrow-\infty,\]
\[v\longrightarrow-c.\]
Thus c is the limiting velocity read of an unbounded logarithmic directional coordinate.
The bound belongs to the projection.
It is not an arbitrary ceiling imposed on a Galilean velocity variable.
24. The Gas Shows What Happens Near the Projection Horizon
Suppose molecules retain finite local rapidities
\[\eta_a\]
relative to their gas/container boundary.
Relative to a larger reference,
\[\xi_a=\eta_a+\bar\Xi.\]
For any finite ηa ,
\[\bar\Xi\longrightarrow+\infty\]
implies
\[v_a=c\tanh(\eta_a+\bar\Xi)\longrightarrow c.\]
The subordinate rapidity differences can remain finite:
\[\eta_a-\eta_b\ne0.\]
Yet their larger-boundary velocity reads become compressed toward the same limiting value.
Therefore:
loss of velocity distinction ≠ loss of local rapidity distinction. [PDF statement clipped at right edge; wording requires author review.]
The hidden rapidity landscape retains structure that the bounded velocity projection can no longer resolve.
25. Time Dilation Does Not Require Local Time to Mechanically Slow
For the selected local boundary,
\[dx=v\,dt.\]
The invariant gives
\[d\tau^2=dt^2\left(1-\frac{v^2}{c^2}\right).\]
Hence
\[d\tau=\frac{dt}{\gamma},\]
where
\[\gamma=\frac1{\sqrt{1-v^2/c^2}}.\]
The local proper recurrence remains invariant.
What changes is the temporal coordinate assigned to it from another enclosing reference.
Thus time dilation is a real cross-boundary clock relation.
It need not mean that motion acts as a primitive mechanism slowing an independently existing universal time.
26. Length Contraction Does Not Require the Local Boundary to Shrink
The same reasoning applies to spatial projection.
The local boundary retains its proper distinguishability.
A ruler belonging to another enclosing reference assigns a different spatial coordinate to that invariant local relation.
For a structure with proper length L0 ,
\[L=\frac{L_0}{\gamma}.\]
This is a real physical relation among reference-dependent ruler reads.
It does not require the primitive local boundary itself to become ontologically shorter.
The radius does not generate the enclosing geometry.
The enclosure determines how the local radius-like distinction is read.
27. Relativity of Simultaneity Has the Same Origin The physical transformation gives
\[dt'=\gamma\left(dt-\frac{v\,dx}{c^2}\right).\]
Two separated occurrences satisfying
\[dt=0\]
in one reference generally satisfy
\[dt'\ne0.\]
in another.
Thus simultaneity is also owned by a specified enclosing coordinate relation.
There is no requirement for a primitive universal present extending independently across all boundaries.
28. Lorentz Geometry Is the Uniform-Background Case
The preceding construction assumes that the enclosing rapidity reference is uniform over the comparison domain.
Schematically,
\[\bar\Xi_{\Phi}=\text{common reference shift}.\]
Every local boundary in that domain is reread through the same enclosing transformation.
The resulting geometry is flat:
uniform enclosing rapidity relation → Lorentz geometry.
This supplies the natural bridge to gravity.
29. Curved Spacetime Begins When the Enclosing Rapidity Relation Is Not Uniform
Now permit the enclosing reference relation to vary across a larger gravitational boundary:
\[\bar\Xi=\bar\Xi(x).\]
Two neighboring subordinate boundaries a and b may then satisfy
\[\bar\Xi_a\ne\bar\Xi_b.\]
Their difference,
\[\delta_{ab}\bar\Xi,\]
is locally distinguishable.
If the difference changes through recurrence,
\[\delta_{ab}(\Delta\bar\Xi)\ne0,\]
the enclosing relation possesses tidal structure.
This suggests the next R²D ordering:
nonuniform enclosing rapidity → peer rapidity difference → tidal relation → curvature projection.
Einstein curvature therefore need not mean that a primitive radius has physically bent.
The enclosing relation has changed.
The radius and clock coordinates reconstructed from that relation consequently cease to obey one global Euclidean calibration.
30. Area Before Radius Is Therefore Common to Lorentz and Einstein Geometry
The same inversion appears twice.
For Lorentz geometry:
enclosing multiplicative relation → invariant norm → clock/ruler decomposition.
For spherical gravity:
enclosing gravitational area → areal radius → radial coordinate geometry.
In neither case should the projected radius-like coordinate be promoted to the primitive source of the enclosure.
The enclosure is prior.
The coordinate is its read.
Thus:
Lorentz geometry is the motion-coordinate form of area before radius.
And gravitational curvature is the extension in which the enclosing relation itself varies from place to place.
31. The Local Radius Does Not Bend
The phrase “curved spacetime” can easily encourage a misleading primitive picture.
R²D does not require a local radius to bend.
A local boundary retains its own proper distinguishability.
What changes across a gravitational relation is the enclosing geometry from which multiple local radial and temporal reads are reconstructed.
Therefore a more precise R²D statement is:
the local radius does not bend; the enclosing relation changes.
The resulting projected coordinate system is curved because no single flat ruler-and-clock calibration can represent all local enclosure relations simultaneously.
33. Lorentz Relativity Is Not Relative to a Rest Mass
A rest mass can serve as a useful local clock once its recurrence is physically calibrated.
But it does not define the relativistic reference architecture.
The logical order is instead
enclosing background → rapidity zero → local motion relation → massive or massless physical realization.
Therefore:
Lorentz relativity is background-relative before it is mass-relative.
Mass-energy belongs downstream.
This prevents the derivation of relativity from becoming circular through a prior assumption of rest energy.
34. The Route to Mass-Energy Is Now Downstream
Once the reference geometry has produced the rapidity coordinate ξ , a persistent mass-bearing boundary can acquire mechanical even and odd reads:
\[\Pi_{\pm}=\Pi_0e^{\pm\xi}.\]
Their combinations are
\[Q=\Pi_0\cosh\xi,\]
and
\[P=\Pi_0\sinh\xi.\]
The next problem is to determine the physical calibrations that identify these quantities as energy and momentum and to determine the invariant scale Π0 .
That argument can now proceed without importing Lorentz geometry.
The reference geometry has already been derived.
35. The Route to Gravity Is Also Downstream
The next gravitational problem is not initially:
How does mass bend spacetime?
It is:
How does the enclosing rapidity landscape vary across neighboring subordinate realizations?
A uniform shift produces ordinary inertial Lorentz rereading.
A changing common-mode shift produces acceleration relative to a larger boundary.
A differential shift between peers produces tidal distinguishability.
Only afterward is that structure represented by curved spacetime.
This gives the hierarchy:
background rapidity → rapidity change → peer difference → tidal geometry → Einstein curvature.
36. Logical Status
Canonical R²D
The canon supplies:
• boundary-relative statehood; • enclosing definition of compatibility; • multiplicative compatible count structure; • logarithmic coordinates of multiplicative count; • counting invariance when physical representation changes without changing boundary classification; • background as a nondirectional reference;
• physical motion as a cross-boundary read;
• multiplicity as prior to normalized probability.
Physical prototype
A thermal gas demonstrates:
• subordinate directional motions distributed around an enclosing mean;
• the mean belongs to the ensemble rather than an individual molecule;
• motion of the ensemble changes the larger-boundary reference without requiring reconstruction of
every local state.
Addendum-level physical mapping
This addendum proposes that inertial motion realizes the same architecture:
the enclosing boundary defines a rapidity landscape whose center is the motion reference.
A pure inertial change shifts that reference without changing the native subordinate boundary.
Derived mathematics
For a one-dimensional directional relation:
\[I=\frac12\ln(Z_+Z_-),\]
\[\xi=\frac12\ln\frac{Z_-}{Z_+}.\]
A reference shift gives
\[\xi'=\xi+\bar\Xi,\]
\[Z_+'=e^{-\bar\Xi}Z_+,\]
\[Z_-'=e^{+\bar\Xi}Z_-,\]
and therefore
\[Z_+Z_-=\text{invariant}.\]
Defining linear even and odd coordinates gives
\[d\theta^2-d\chi^2=\text{invariant}.\]
Physical calibration
Clock and ruler mappings
\[d\theta=a_\Phi\,dt,\]
\[d\chi=b_\Phi\,dx.\]
define
\[c_{\Phi}=\frac{a_{\Phi}}{b_{\Phi}}\]
and produce
\[d\tau^2=dt^2-\frac{dx^2}{c_{\Phi}^{\,2}}.\]
Derived physical consequences
The resulting projection gives
\[\frac{v}{c_{\Phi}}=\tanh\xi,\]
the Lorentz transformation, relativistic velocity addition, time dilation, length contraction, relativity of simultaneity, and the limiting speed.
Not yet established
This addendum does not yet derive:
• universal equality of dimensional c across genuine recursive boundary replacement; • ξ = Γ, where Γ is the canonical recursive recurrence ladder; • mass-energy equivalence; • gravitational tidal geometry; • the Riemann tensor; • Einstein’s field equations.
Those are downstream results.
37. Principle — The Enclosure Defines the Rapidity Landscape
For subordinate directional realizations {Ba } contained within enclosing reference boundary Φ, the enclosing count structure defines the admissible directional landscape and its nondirectional center.
Subordinate boundaries realize positions within that landscape.
They do not independently construct it.
Thus
enclosing multiplicity → rapidity landscape → subordinate velocity realization.
A pure inertial change of reference shifts the rapidity center while preserving the local boundary-defined invariant.
38. Principle — Lorentz Geometry Is Area Before Radius Let
\[Z_+,Z_->0\]
be the opposed multiplicative coordinates of a one-dimensional reference relation.
Their product defines the prior enclosing measure
\[\mathcal A_L=Z_+Z_-.\]
The associated invariant norm is then
\[\rho_L=\sqrt{\mathcal A_L}.\]
Linear even and odd coordinate reads satisfy
\[d\theta^2-d\chi^2=\rho_L^2.\]
Therefore the invariant quadratic geometry is not constructed from a primitive radius.
The radius-like norm is reconstructed from a prior enclosing multiplicative relation.
Thus:
enclosure → area-like count relation → radius-like norm → Lorentz coordinate geometry.
39. Conclusion
Special relativity begins with a reference problem.
A local boundary does not define the zero relative to which its motion is measured.
The zero belongs to an enclosure.
A thermal gas makes this structure directly visible. Molecules move relative to a gas/container boundary. Their velocities form an enclosing distribution whose center is defined by the gas, not by any individual
molecule. If the entire container moves relative to a larger boundary, the internal distribution need not be reconstructed. Its reference center changes.
R²D generalizes this architecture.
For
\[B_a\subset\Phi_0\subset\Phi_1.\]
the subordinate boundary realizes a local directional relation.
The immediate enclosure defines the local rapidity landscape.
The larger enclosure shifts its reference center.
The additive relation is
\[\xi_{a\mid\Phi_1}=\xi_{a\mid\Phi_0}+\bar\Xi_{\Phi_0\mid\Phi_1}.\]
Because rapidity is logarithmic, the corresponding positive multiplicative coordinates scale reciprocally:
\[Z_+'=e^{-\bar\Xi}Z_+,\]
\[Z_-'=e^{+\bar\Xi}Z_-.\]
Their product remains invariant:
\[Z_+Z_-=\mathcal A_L.\]
The associated norm is
\[\rho_L=\sqrt{\mathcal A_L}.\]
Only afterward do linear coordinate reads give
\[d\theta^2-d\chi^2=\rho_L^2.\]
And only after physical calibration does this become
\[d\tau^2=dt^2-\frac{dx^2}{c^2}.\]
Thus the Lorentz interval is not the primitive geometry that causes relativistic invariance.
It is the physical coordinate representation of a prior enclosing count relation.
The local proper boundary does not need to shrink.
Its proper recurrence does not need to slow.
What changes is the enclosing rapidity geometry through which its temporal, spatial, and velocity coordinates are read.
The same inversion appears in gravity.
A primitive radius does not bend to create gravitational geometry.
The enclosing relation changes, and radial and temporal coordinates are reconstructed from that changed enclosure.
Lorentz flatness is the uniform-background case.
Einstein curvature will arise when the enclosing rapidity relation is no longer uniform across neighboring subordinate realizations.
The unified order is therefore
enclosing multiplicity → background rapidity landscape → subordinate realization → area-like invariant → radiu
And beyond special relativity,
nonuniform enclosing rapidity → tidal distinction → curved spacetime.
Thus:
the reference boundary occurs before Lorentz geometry.
And more generally:
the enclosure occurs before the radius used to describe it.
